Pretty Things: Happy Birthday Glossybox

Hello!

Yesterday, I received my last Glossybox. It’s in celebration of their one year anniversary in Canada. It’s such a great box that I had to share it. I really love Glossybox. I’ve had a subscription for nearly a year and I wanted to try the new SeasonsBox. In a few months, who knows? I might resubscribe.

Here’s what I received:004
I love the normal pale pink boxes that Glossybox comes in. However, I love receiving this box. It’s very cute.
005
Clockwise from top left:
1. Anatomicals : You Need a Blooming Shower! – FULL SIZE!
Rose & Jasmine Body Cleanser – smells gorgeous!

2. Crabtree & Evelyn Tarocco Orange Eucalyptus & Sage Ultra-Moisturizing Hand Therapy Sachet

3. Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips – Ultra – FULL SIZE!
Yay!

4. Essence Quattro Eyeshadow in Vamp it Up  – FULL SIZE!
Not sure about these colours. I have a couple of them and they’re more like fall colours in my mind but I loved getting it!
006

5. Givenchy Gloss Interdit No. 3 Coral Frenzy (3.5 mL)
I think this is the most luxe product I received from Glossybox so I was very excited!!008 009
6. Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment This is exactly what I’ve needed! I think that since we’re getting closer to spring (pleeassee!!), I’m started to notice that my hair is getting a bit dry. I’m very excited to try this.

7. Eucerin Hyal-Urea Anti-Wrinkle Day / Night Cream Sachet Duo Not really into this. I really don’t like using anything with urea.

8. Glossybox Cupcake Kit Seriously? How cute is this!? I will definitely be making cupcakes in the near future!

As far as I know, everything (except for the Eucerin sample) is cruelty-free. 🙂

I have enjoyed receiving Glossybox. Although the products included are mostly drugstore products, there are usually 2-3 full size products. Did you get anything different in your Glossybox? Let me know!

NOTD: Revlon – Powder Puff

Hello hello!

In December’s Glossybox I received another nail polish.  Love that! I don’t even know the last time I purchased nail polish myself. December’s glossybox was a bit weird. There was some controversy about it on their Facebook page regarding old products. It should be interesting to see what comes this month. Anyway, I was really excited when I saw this colour because as much as I love having white nail polish, I really don’t like to buy it. You know, it’s a basic everyday and not all that fun. I like to spend my money on the fun polishes.

005

This colour isn’t exactly as I had imagined. It’s very pretty and sheer. There is some iridescence. The photo above is of two coats. You can still see the nail through but I really liked the way it looked. So even though it’s not the bright solid white I hoped for, I think it’s much more wearable and I’ll get a lot of use out it.  It is a matte shade but there is still some shimmer from the colour.

What is your favourite polish at the moment? What did you receive in your Glossybox last month?

Instagraming December!

Hello hello!

I hope you’re all having a lovely weekend. I’ve been asked to help out on my friend’s curling team tonight. Very nervous since I’ve never curled before. Do I need my own broom? What do I wear? lol I’m not really sure how I can grow up in Manitoba and never thrown a rock before but there you have it.

Anyway, here’s what I was up to in December:

UntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitledUntitled
Loving the beautiful pastel sunsets we get in the winter  // Decorated my front window based on a pin I can no longer find. 😦  // Latest Glossybox // First chocolate of the advent calendar. Still not sure what it’s meant to be // New (to me) dining table & chairs – post here // Working on baby blanket // Baby blanket complete  – pattern here // Working on term paper // Hot chocolate! // Very  cute owl in my parents’ front yard // University // Another pretty day full of hoar frost // More blue skies // Christmas morning cinnamon buns – recipe here // Red velvet trifle inspired by this pin (used box red velvet mix instead of madelines & whipped cream instead of cream cheese & marscapone) // My kobo smiling

What have you been up to this December? I love following new instagrams. Follow me on instagram @Lesleylu and I’ll be sure to follow back! x

NOTD: Nicole by OPI – Here We Kome a Karoling

Hello hello!

In November’s Glossybox I received a gorgeous jewel toned purple shade. It was great because even though I’m not really wanting to wear purple at the moment, I don’t have a shade like this. It’s very pretty.

opibynicoleherewecomeakaroling

I also decided to add some of Butter London’s The Black Knight on my tips and ring finger just because I never use The Black Knight. I’m not sure why. I really like it but I just always reach for something else.

What is your favourite polish at the moment?

NOTD: Zoya’s Emme

Hello lovelies!

Just a quick NOTD today. Look at this beautiful pink pearly polish I received in this month’s GlossyBox! I generally don’t wear pearly pink polish because it’s a bit Molly Ringwald in The Breakfast Club. Although, that’s often what I’m going for!

I really need a new camera.

Did you get a Zoya polish in your Glossy Box this month? What’s your favourite polish at the moment?

Pretty Things: The Crimson Amulet Collection by NYX

Hey lovelies!

Generally, I don’t talk about what I got in my beauty boxes because I haven’t tried them out yet but I was so excited about an item in this month’s Glossybox. Hope I’m not spoiling anything for you!

Imagine my surprise when I opened my box and saw this.

My first thought was that it was some cheesy promotional movie. lol. I don’t know why. I opened it up and I gasped! It’s a full on palette!

One side is eyeshadows

The other side contains blushes, a highlighter, eyeshadow base, liner and lip glosses!

Woo hoo!! I’m very excited to try this out so thank you to Glossybox & Nyx for putting this together.

The best part?

Needless to say I’m really excited to try these all out. These colours are perfect for fall! This is great for me because I really don’t have a lot of neutrals. Of course, I’m mostly drawn to the sparkly navy and jade shadows. 😉

What do you think of this palette?

Pretty Things: May Glossybox!

Even though I’m well behind, here’s May’s Glossybox! It still completely made my day. I have yet to be disappointed with Glossybox.

Let’s get on with it, shall we?

1. Curel Foot Cream
Sample size: 100 ml / $3.99
It doesn’t say full size but it’s quite significant. It’s always nice to have a foot cream, particularly in the summer. It’s perfect for summer.  Smells lovely. I couldn’t find anything online stating whether it was a cruelty-free product but then I found another May Glossybox review and Sara had already contacted the company. Fantastic! Cruelty-free.

2. Simple Eye Make up Remover
Sample size: 56 ml
Full size: $9.99

and

Simple Facial Wash Gel
Sample size: 50 ml
Full size: $9.99

Simple cosmetics have really had a big marketing push behind them since coming to Canada. I was curious to try them when I first heard about them. On their UK website, they state that they are cruelty-free but their American & Canadian sites don’t say that. Something clearly didn’t translate when coming across the pond. To be honest, if I have to search and search to find out if a company is cruelty-free, chances are they’re not. It’s a great selling feature and it’s too bad not all companies don’t feel the same way. I think these will be saved up for a giveaway.

3.  boxx Cosmetics Cream Corrector in Melina
FULL SIZE!  Whoop! $24
I used to use one of these concealers all the time. I’m not sure you can tell from this hazy photo, but it’s a concealer that is tinted quite yellow to help mask dark circles. Love the texture of this. I’m not sure if they test on animals. I’ve sent a tweet and when I get a response I will update you.

UPDATE:

boxx cosmetics

@boxxcosmetics @LesleyHere yes it is cruelty free. Thanks for asking!

4. Sebastian Professional Volupt Shampoo

FULL SIZE! 250 ml / $15.78
I’m not a fan of shampoos that are not biodegradable or sulfate free. However, it’s nice to get another full size product. Glossybox never disappoints on that score. The shampoo definitely smells like a spa shampoo. You know how they never really smell like the ocean or coconut, they usually have that spa smell?  Cruelty-free.

That’s it for now! Really excited to see what comes in this month’s Glossybox.

Did you get anything different in your Glossybox for May? Let me know!

Pretty Things : April Glossybox!

Hello lovelies!

As previously mentioned, I’m so behind with these posts! But I thought it was worth sharing. From March’s Glossybox post, I thought I’d update you on what I tried out so far. The Algemarin Foam Bath was fabulous! I really loved how the mineral salts were used. The foam also turned the water a gorgeous bright blue which was unexpected but a lovely surprise. I’m such a 12 year old when it comes to things like that.

I’m also really loving my Bailey Cosmetics Kabuki Brush although its weird to use a brush with such a short handle. I’m really loving the Pandora’s blush as well.  🙂

On to April’s Box:

1. Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Shower Gel
Full size!!: 240 ml – $20
This smells lovely. It’s not like every other vanilla scent. It’s a little more spicy. Cruelty-free.

2. Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara
Full size!! $12.50
I was going to take a photo of the close up on the brush because I think that’s where this flops for me. I never have any luck with mascaras that have more of a comb than a brush. I think my lashes are too thin to handle putting so much on at once. They look like they’re soaking wet so it becomes a bit of a pain trying to thin them out. I think I like the formula of the mascara though. It’s the brush that doesn’t work for me. Cruelty-free.

3. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer
Full size! $22.99
Woop! Another full size product! We’re spoiled! I’m generally not a fan of Aveeno products. They tend to irritate my skin so I think I’ll just save this for a future giveaway. 🙂

4. Wella Brilliance Conditioner & Treatment
Sample size Conditioner: 30 ml
Full size Conditioner: 250 ml / $13.99

Sample size Treatment : 25 mL
Full size Treatment: 150 mL $13.99

The conditioner & treatment smell nice but like any other conditioner (hope I’m not the only one who picks their hair products on scent!). The treatment is quite thick and I imagine would be great to leave in while you were soaking in the bath.

So that’s it! Glossybox is still my favourite box each month. Three FULL SIZE products! Can you believe it? I love receiving the box and feeling that it’s quite heavy. I also really like the boxes they come in. They’re very sturdy (in comparison to other boxes) and I know that they’ll last a long time.

What did you think of April’s Glossybox or May’s for that matter?  Did you get anything different in yours?

Pretty Things : My First Glossybox!

Hello lovelies!

Of all the beauty boxes I’ve seen online, Glossybox was the one I coveted the most. Once I realized it was available in Canada, I had to sign up right away which naturally left me on the wait list. Well, the wait is over!

Upon first impressions, the box was quite heavy. Before I even opened it, I had felt I had received my fair share. There are a ton of photos online of Glossybox packaging so I won’t include it here. It’s really a pretty box to receive and I’m trying to think of something I can use it for. The one thing I must mention is that it came quite late in the month, practically in April.

On with the show:

1. Algemarin Foam Bath
Sample size: 15 ml
Full size: 5×5 ml – $3.99 ; 500 ml – $17.99
This was considered an “extra” on the product card.  You can really see it in the above photo but it’s a little packet of bubble bath. I can’t to try it. It says that it’s made from “extracts of seaweed, algae and mineral salts which give the body a tonal quality that previously was only obtainable from hydrotherapy or sea bathing.” I really only understood half of that. lol. Cruelty-free.

2. Sebastian Re-Shaper Hairspray
Sample size: 43 g
Full size: $19.95
I really don’t use hairspray at all although this would be nice for a night out. I really don’t like using anything that comes in that kind of metallic can. I only have two products that come in a can like that. One is hair spray I bought in 2008 (I remember because it was for an 80s themed retro party, naturally) and an Aldo shoe protector that I had longer than that. It’s just not my thing and I’d probably never get around to using it. Cruelty-free.

3. Bailey Cosmetics Kabuki Brush
Full size! $40.00
Now this was a big one! A Kabuki Brush! I was thrilled and then I was scared. Where  did it come from? How did they get this hair? My second though was, does this have something to do with Canadian designer Brian Bailey?? Yes it does. I was also relieved to read this on their website which mentions their policies. Although not everyone believes in natural hair for make up brushes, it is from a sheared goat (meaning no animal was killed) so it would be the same as wool, etc. This actually made me want to purchase more through their website. I like their policy, I like that it’s a Canadian company and I like the esthetic.

4. Evian Brumisateur Facial Spray
Sample size: 50 ml / $7
Full size: 150 ml / $12.50
Here we go with this bottle again! I’ve seen this product around for years but I’ve never tried it. It just seems strange to pay that much for mist. However, I think this would be perfect for my gym bag so I’ll use it. I just wish I had somewhere locally to recycle the aluminum. Any Winnipeggers have any ideas? I don’t think they can go in our blue boxes. Maybe I should just call the city?

5. Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
Sample size: 71 ml
Full size: 354 ml
This is actually a really nice size. Perfect for the purse! I haven’t had any luck with Aveeno products in the past. I think I have a reaction to the oatmeal. Plus, it isn’t cruelty-free. However, this will make a perfect gift for someone. I think my Dad likes Aveeno.

6. Pandora’s Blush in St. Tropez
Full size! $18
Another full size product! We’re so spoiled! I told you it was a good box this month! Pandora is a Canadian company and it’s always nice to hear about these things. The packaging is a bit juvenile for me. However, I do love how you can slip the pan right out of the case to put into a palette. Sometimes, it’s so hard to get a pan out it’s not even worth the trouble.

Here’s a photo of the colour up close. It’s actually a bit more bronzier than how it’s coming across there.

So that’s it! Currently, Glossybox is winning the beauty box competition. one is going to have to go this month – like Survivor!

What did you think of March’s Glossybox?  Did you get anything different in yours?

Ready for the Weekend : January 27 edition

This was such an intense week for meetings. I was running out to a meeting or running back from one to join an online webinar. One meeting went past 10 pm at night. I don’t think I recovered from that at all. Story of my life. I’m really looking forward to an easy, breezy weekend. Here’s what I’m up to for the next couple of days:

1. A Midwinter’s Dream Fashion Show
I’ve been offered a ticket through work and I’m really excited about it. I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’ t heard of this event before but it’s only its second year.  I’m a big fan of Hair FX so I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Plus, I’m really excited about the swag bag. I’ll be hitting up the mall tomorrow to find something “sparkling dress attire” appropriate. It’s always great to have the opportunity to support such a worthwhile cause in a fun and fabulous way.

2.  Pining for Beauty Boxes
While reading UK beauty blogs, I get so jealous of all the beauty box options. When I first heard of them, I googled like crazy to find Canadian options and I couldn’t find any. A few months later, I found one through a LouLou magazine email. I signed up immediately, thinking it was the only option and then I found out there were lots to choose from including my dream beauty box – Glossybox. I’m so excited. I’ve signed up for 3 (I would have done 4 but Topbox is full at the moment. 😦  ). It’s a bit ridiculous but for $10 a month, it’s hard not to at least try it out. I don’t imagine I’ll keep them all but I’d like to try it out anyway. I’m actually a perfect candidate for these boxes because I’m really picky. I won’t buy beauty products that aren’t cruelty-free or that come in recyclable packaging. I also don’t buy any soap/shampoo that isn’t biodegradable. It’s so hard to find products that meet my requirements but when I find them, I stick with them! I’m very loyal. If the products don’t have enough for me to choose from, I’ll cancel but for now, I’m super excited.

Here’s what I’ve subscribed to:

You can check out youtube for reviews of the first two boxes. However, Glossybox is brand new in Canada and won’t be shipping until March. Very exciting to be part of the initial launch.

3. Reading Clash of Kings
The Song of Fire & Ice series continues!

4.  Knitting
The blanket isn’t going to knit itself. 🙂

5. Enjoying my new David’s Tea purchases:

Kanpe (herbal) is on top and smells so divine. Kind of like that really tangy filling in jelly doughnuts. FYI – all money from the sales of this tea go to KANPE. Organic North African Mint (green tea) is on the bottom.

What are your plans for the weekend? Any sparkling dress attire suggestions?
