Winter is Coming…

Well, they’ve forecasted that we’ll receive 20 cm of snow over the next day or so. It looks like it’s going to stay this time. :(

To be honest, our city does such a fantastic job of clearing snow that I’ve only ever had two snow days in my life. Trust me, Winnipeggers get a lot of snow! However, if I don’t absolutely have to leave the house, I’d rather stay in until the roads are all clear and the sun is shining.

Here’s what I have prepared for the event of a snow in:

- Watching movies from the library: Why haven’t I ever thought of this before? I knew the library had DVDs but I didn’t realize how current the selection was. This is so great since I don’t have cable and there’s rental places around here anymore.

- Reading JK Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy: This month’s book club pick.

- Knitting my Winterfell scarf: Inspired by the patterns here and here. I’m such a Song of Ice and Fire geek I don’t even care.

- Studying Fairy Tales : presentation during Monday’s class!

How would you spend your day if you were snowed in?

Music Monday: Running Up That Hill – Kate Bush

Happy Monday! How was your weekend!? I finished wallpapering my living room on Saturday. It was the strangest thing. We started on Friday thinking it wouldn’t take that long but the seams weren’t sticking along the sides. Even Google was no help in that situation. I ended up contacting the manufacturer who put me in touch with someone in their testing department. They were very kind and went through it with us step by step but the side seams still weren`t staying down. In the end, I went to  Rona and picked up a gallon of wallpaper paste and just glued them down myself.

In the end, it worked out and when we stopped spending time trying the get the seams down, it went a lot quicker. Seriously though, has anyone experienced that before? All just a bit ridiculous plus it was fairly expensive wallpaper. Anyway, it’s up now and it’s all behind us.

As soon as I figure out the lighting situation here, (very limited natural light), I’ll post  some photos. The colours are just not showing up very accurately.

Today’s song is courtesy of Kate Bush. Loving that the new remix is charting in the UK. They did such a good job of it. Here’s the original video straight from the 80s.

How was your weekend? Any home decor dramas lately?

Music Monday: Rule The World – Take That

Happy Monday! How was your weekend!? I’m finally done moving!! It was so nice to sleep on something other than an air mattress for the first time in three weeks. lol. Over the past week, we finished our final event of the summer as well so I finally have some breathing room. It’s long over due. It’ll be nice to get back to normal.

Are you suffering from Olympics withdrawl? I don’t think I am. I didn’t really get into it as much as I do the winter games but it’s still so cool to see everyone come together. I’m still so proud of Canada’s Women Soccer team for getting the bronze. They were in last place after the World Cup. Not only that but the semi final game with the US got everyone talking here. The fact that Canadians were talking about soccer and women’s soccer at that, is a phenomenal achievement. Can’t wait for 2015!

Did you watch the closing ceremony? So many great moments! I was so thrilled to see George Michael back on stage. I’m such a big fan and I was so worried for him when he was ill last year. Other highlights for me included Eric Idle, Freddie Mercury and of course the Spice Girls. How could you not be happy when they’re zooming around on those cars? Fantastic! I was really delighted when Take That appeared singing Rule the World. It’s my all time favourite Take That song. It worked perfectly in the moment so it’s my Music Monday song. Big hugs to Gary. Don’t know why I’m surprised that he can show up and deliver such a flaw free performance considering the week he’s had. He never disappoints.

How was your weekend? What was your favourite Olympic moment?

UntitledThe Keys to My New Condo!

Happy Friday!

This has been such an exhausting week for me. On Monday, I got home from our family reunion in Saskatchewan. It was also my birthday! On Tuesday, I started to get quite sick and I’m still not feeling up to snuff. I feel so behind on the moving process! So much to do before Monday! Fortunately, I was able to pull myself together to get to the lawyer’s office and sign some papers on Wednesday and pick up my keys today. I STILL HAVEN’T PACKED A THING! So that’s what I’m up to this weekend….packing, packing, packing.

Did I mention that it’s been in the mid 30Cs all week? SO HOT! I need a slurpee.

What are you up to this weekend?

Music Monday: Je T’aime Tant – Julie Delpy

Happy Monday! How was your weekend!? Great news! I won my splurge dinner party pot. Woo hoo! That’s $275 I have to splurge on condo decorating when I finally get possession in less than a month’s time. I’ve already been scouting through paint chips.

Paint chips

This weekend, my brother was in from Edmonton, plus Sunday was Father’s Day so LOTS of family time this weekend. I also finished two books: Paris in Love by Eloisa James (LOVE) and A Royal Pain by Rhys Bowen, the second book in the series (LOVE).

Last week, rumours seem to have been confirmed that there’ll be a third movie in the Before Sunrise / Before Sunset series. This is VERY EXCITING news to me. I absolutely love those movies. If you haven’t seen them yet, you must! Pick a day that you can lounge in your pjs all day and obsess about the outcome of these movies because trust me you will. So romantic and perfect. The first movie is on youtube I see so no excuses!

So I’m including a song from the movie. There is another song from Before Sunset that’s perfect but it gives away too much of the plot if you haven’t seen the first one.

Irises in my backyard

Happy Friday!

This week has been such a whirlwind for me. Not only is our last event of the fiscal year this upcoming Sunday, I also found time to sneak in and buy a condo! It was crazy! I went to see the place on Tuesday afternoon and by 7:30 I was writing up an offer. Apparently, my condo buying style is to see one, make an offer and wrap it up within 4 hours. Who does that? My possession date is July 16. I’m very excited to get in there and make it my own.

Here’s what I’m up to this weekend:

1. Working!
How exciting! I can’t wait to go to sleep on Sunday night. It’s going to be the best sleep ever.

2. Reading A Royal Pain by Rhys Bowen
The follow up to Her Royal Spyness which I loved.

3. Watching the Tony Awards!
I only watch two awards shows in their entirety: The Brits and The Tonys. They’re both similar in some ways. I like how the emphasis is on performances and not about congratulating themselves *cough* Oscars *cough*.

4. Organizing, Organizing…
I just want to start packing even though it’s a bit too soon.

5.  Going for a gorgeous early morning walk
It’s the best way to enjoy the outdoors before the heat hits 30C!

What are you up to this weekend?

Music Monday: Never Close Our Eyes – Adam Lambert

Happy Monday! How was your weekend!? I had such a hard time sleeping the last few days that it was pretty much a wash for me. I’m having a lot of anxiety over an upcoming event but I think I just need to take a break from it so I’m not thinking about it all the time. Such is the life of an event planner. I don’t know how some people who do events every weekend (like wedding planners), handle it. Anyway, I spent Friday and Saturday in a bit of a daze. You know, when you wake up from a deep sleep too quickly and you can’t seem to wake up? The worst! I even woke up at 8:30 pm on Saturday and wasn’t sure if it was Saturday or Sunday.  Apart from wandering around like a mess, I just watched some The L Word episodes on Netflix. I thought I had watched more of that show during it’s original run but it was all new to me so I really couldn’t have watched that much of it. I also watched New York, I love You which was a bit of a disappointment. I really loved Paris, J’taime (the movie that it was based on) but sometimes, things don’t translate as well as you’d like.

Today’s song comes courtesy of my all-time favourite American Idol contestant. I love Adam Lambert! Surprisingly,  I haven’t picked up his new album yet but I know I’ll buy it within a week or so. His first album is still on heavy rotation on my ipod. I particularly like the 80′s style blazers he’s rocking in the video.

Ready for the Weekend: June 1 Edition

Happy Friday all!

I’ve had such anxiety the last couple of days because of an upcoming event. I hate that feeling. Last night, I actually woke up around 3:30 am and was panicking over how to fit a bicycle in my car. Seriously. I couldn’t fall asleep again until 6 am. Then I overslept and nearly missed lunch with a friend! Because I bolted up and ran out of the house, I don’ t think I was fully awake and for the rest of the day I had a bit of a headache and had trouble focusing. It was as though by brain was buffering. Now that it’s been a few hours, I’m feeling a bit more normal. :) How much anxiety is too much I wonder? Sometimes I think I should get checked out for it. However, another part of me thinks that anxiety is a good thing because it keeps me on my toes. I think it’s really the fact that I haven’t slept well the last few days that is making things more tense.

Good thing it’s the weekend!!

Here’s a photo of some bunnies playing under the tree in my parents’ front yard. This photo has nothing to do with anything but it makes me happy. I love how we’re in the middle of the city and we still have wild bunnies running around. I’m actually located more centrally than my parents and we have them here too. How could you not love them? Just look at their ears!

Instead of my regular weekend plans post, I thought I’d try to resurrect my Monthly Goal posts which I don’t think I”ve done since February. Oops. Here goes nothing.

1. Buying a condo!
A new realtor is in place and now it’s time to get this show on the road. I hope I find something this month so I can move in August.

2. Finishing the last event of our fiscal year.
Why do our 3 biggest events have to happen within a one month time span? It’s madness.

3. Camping with my bffs!
It’s our 3rd year doing it and this time, I’m actually looking forward to it! My resolve has been weakened.

4. Transplanting my sad little African violets.
I’ve had them for 4 years but they haven’t bloomed for the past 2 years. I think they need some TLC. Speaking of TLC…

I miss them. This song was everything in 1994. Side note: I love how everything they’re wearing is four times to big for them yet they’re still sexy as hell.

5. Packing up my home office!
I’m so looking forward to having some down time to clean up my desk and office area. It’s such a disaster.

6. Heading to Assiniboine Park Gardens!
It’s been nearly a year since this post. I’d love to head over and have another wander around.

7. Complete Unit 1 of Rosetta Stone Italiano Level 2
It’s been ages since I’ve done this. I’ve just had no time. :(

8. Reading The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morden.

It’s my Book Club pick this month.

9. A trip to Winnipeg’s Famous BDI!
I can’t believe I haven’t been there yet this year!! I might have to do it this weekend.

10. Winning our Splurge pot this month.
It’s my month I tell you. I want a Kobo!

What do you have looking forward to in June?

Music Monday: Timebomb – Kylie!

Happy Monday! How was your weekend!? It was so rainy here but it’s spring so that’s to be expected. I felt like I had a lot of time to relax even though I had a lot going on. Always a good thing! At my friend’s wedding social I won the camping silent auction package! Yay! I was so excited and then I realized it came with a coupon for a lot of money towards a pig roast. The vegetarian will always win a pig roast prize guaranteed. lol. I passed that on to a friend.

Today’s song of the day comes from the birthday girl! Today’s Kylie’s 44th birthday. Can you believe it? If I look half as good as her today I’d consider it a win. You know how much I love her. She is my all time favourite female singer. She’s so positive and upbeat. Love love love! Here’s the video for her brand new single, Timebomb. It’s from her next greatest hits album (I think it’s her 8th Greatest Hits album) which I will probably pick up. It’d be good for the car even though I think I have every song on there on various cds. I like compilations though. If you’re ever curious about Kylie, I suggest you pick up her greatest hits. I picked up her two disk Ultimate Kylie cd about 10 years ago and fell in love. She doesn’t receive a ton of airplay in Canada so many songs were new to me.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KYLIE!!

Music Monday, er…Tuesday : Big Hoops – Nelly Furtado

Happy Tuesday! Where have I been? Well, our Gala was on Wednesday and that literally takes every waking moment for the entire week surrounding it. It’s a bit embarrassing to admit  but I actually went to sleep on Sunday night at 8 pm. I so needed it.  Thankfully Monday was Victoria Day and we had the extra day off. :) I’m glad things will be getting back to normal. I still have two more events before the summer is out. Two down, two to go!

It took me a couple of listens to get into Nelly Furtado’s new song. If I’m honest, it’s the hoop dancing that kept me watching at first. If you ever have the chance to see hoop dancing live you really have to check it out. It’s so fast. You blink and the dancer has gone from a turtle to a bird and back to a bear! It’s very cool to watch. It’s also nice to see First Nations culture in the mainstream without including one of those awful headresses hipsters wear to Coachella. Who really thinks that’s a good idea? It’s just embarrassing.
